Supply Chain Program Manager

This position will act as the primary conduit between the Purchasing and interfacing departments (Engineering, Program Management, Sales and Manufacturing). Manage new programs from the design phase to production while meeting all program timing, cost, and quality requirements. Drive early supplier involvement in new product introduction to meet key initiatives. In addition, the position will manage tactical implementation of strategic initiatives.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate RFQ activity from pre-award through post-launch change activity.
  • Track purchased material cost history and changes from pre-launch through SOP for assigned programs. Manage purchased material cost performance to targets.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure on-time APQP milestone deliverables from tool kick-off through start of production.
  • Oversee and track supplier tooling deliverables.
  • Use standardized templates to report sourcing status, costs, changes, and milestone deliverables for assigned programs.
  • Engage cross-functional team in cost savings activities for assigned programs and manage savings projects through implementation.
  • Coordinate cross-functional team as needed for supplier crisis management.
  • Represent Purchasing in Program Gate Reviews.
  • Any other duties assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience (minimum required for the position)

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Purchasing/Program Management or equivalent commensurate experience. 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to gain consensus amongst cross-functional groups and remote locations.
  • Ability to be extremely organized, results driven, and willing to escalate issues if necessary to achieve deliverables.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of key financial metrics.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, Microsoft Project, and Lotus Notes or Outlook.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, QAD preferred
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to perform essential duties.
  • Ability to develop instructions and guidelines to perform functions of the job when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility. However, this position is required to lead cross-functional teams and manage the multiple competing deadlines from each of the interfacing departments.

Physical Demands/Environment

This position requires the following physical abilities: to sit; to use hands (to finger, handle, or feel), to reach with hands and arms, to stand, to talk and hear and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. In addition, the specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is mostly sedentary; however there is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration and to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Other Requirements

There is some travel required to visit suppliers, other Akebono facilities or customers, therefore ability to drive a motor vehicle is required.
