Materials Manager

Job Title:  Materials Manager

Reports to:  Plant Manager

 

 

Job Summary:

Manage all aspects of materials flow and to maintain control and accuracy over all raw materials and finished goods inventories, including all transactions, procurement, planning, scheduling, cost, warehouse, receiving, and shipping to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time.

 

 

Position responsibilities:

Provide tactical and strategic direction to the production planners, material handlers, cycle counters, and warehouse personnel.

Provide leadership in selecting, developing and evaluating personnel to ensure the efficient operation of materials functions.

Instill and maintain a positive team environment where members are dedicated to exceeding expectations of both internal and external customers.

Plan and manage overall department budget and manpower levels in accordance with customer orders and production schedule requirements.

Develop and drive countermeasures for underperforming key processes and/or material suppliers.

Recommend and carry out improvements to procedures and practices in order to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Manage new product introductions, product discontinuations, and new business integration.

Work closely with Operations Manager to develop production schedules that maximize on-time performance while balancing production output to agreed capacity levels.

Serve as a key member of the plant Leadership Team responsible for development and execution of action plans required to secure achievement of business plan targets and key performance metrics.

 

 

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or Engineering related field

APICS Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) preferred 

Master’s Degree preferred

 

 

Skill and Experience Requirements:

7 to 10 years of progressive high volume automotive supplier related experience

Working knowledge of EDI, DDL, SIMS, GM Supply Power, Smart, and other automotive customer systems

ERP / MRP system knowledge – experience utilizing QAD is preferred

Proficient use of Microsoft Office software with expertise in Excel

Strong analytical skills and problem solving experience

Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects / priorities

Demonstrated leadership experience in a managerial role
