MACHINE OPERATOR - at akebono a Tennessee Drug Free Workplace

JOB PURPOSE:  Responsible for operating and performing autonomous maintenance on equipment; loading and unloading production line; product assembly; materials and product inspection.

Please Note:  We are currently working a significant amount of overtime hours.


  • Uses hands, arms and legs to load and unload product from the production line.  Works in generally good production, warehouse and loading dock conditions, wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Visually inspects color-coded material and product, identifying any flaws.
  • Uses hands, arms and legs to maintain the equipment.  Visually inspects color-coded parts, changes tooling and drills, checks fluid levels and adds fluid if necessary.  Cleans machines and surrounding work area.
  • Moves chip hoppers into and out of work areas.
  • Uses knowledge of IATF16949 procedures for tagging, alerts and concessions.
  • Complies with ISO 14001 Program Elements
  • Completes necessary documentation such as policy deployment charts, machine downtime, quality issues and enters information into pass logs.
  • Monitors Dust Hog Barrels and changes if necessary.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and participates in Safety/Team meetings.


Assists in sorts and other special projects such as runoff’s, offsite sorting and Continuous Improvement Teams.

Other duties as may be assigned by management.


Knowledge – Requires the knowledge of general arithmetic; ability to speak and write in a clear and understandable manner; understand detailed verbal and written instructions; knowledge ordinarily acquired through high school graduation plus job related experience.  (Essential job functions 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8)

Mental – Requires continuous attention to detail, process and safety procedures with periods of high concentration to maintain flow of product and inspecting the equipment and product for flaws.  (Essential job functions 2, 3, 6, 8)

Physical – Requires walking and standing a majority of the time, lifting light weights frequently, stooping and bending.  (Essential job functions 1, 3, 4, 7)

Environmental – Requires capability of performing essential job functions in generally good plant conditions, wearing required personal safety equipment.  (Essential job functions 1 – 8)

Manual Dexterity – Requires use of arms, hands, legs and feet for frequent lifting, use of hands and arms to record written information.  (Essential job functions 1, 3, 4, 6, 7)

Audible/Visual – Requires ability to hear communications and instructions; ability to visually inspect machines and equipment on a constant basis.  Requires the ability to differentiate color-coded products and material.  (Essential job functions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7)
